Boom Town Advertising has truly mastered the art of producing creative advertisements for stock standard masonry products. Through witty copywriting, clever imagery and creative flair, the agency, one of the country’s leading, has given clay bricks a new lease on life.
According to Andrew MacKenzie, Design Director of Boom Town Advertising, “Clay bricks possess a range of interesting and unique selling points, which became the focal point in advertisements and led to the conceptualisation of thought-provoking yet humorous designs”.
The agency began its quest for developing creative advertisements for clay bricks in 2006 with Makana Brick and Algoa Brick, both of which belong to the same group of companies. In a tremendous show of camaraderie towards their competitors, EP Brick and Volcano Bricks soon joined the list of clay brick manufacturers serviced by Boom Town. A further success on the agency’s part was winning the advertising pitch for the Clay Brick Association in October 2007.
MacKenzie adds that, “Although it was challenging at first, a thorough understanding of the product and its related properties makes for a fun and enjoyable creative process that delivers exceptional results. The advertising of clay bricks turned out to be immensely enjoyable for us. It is also great to be involved in an industry where so many ‘competitors’ are working together towards the common goal of growth”.
Boom Town is not only a major role-player in the clay brick advertising industry due to having some of the larger clay brick manufacturers in South Africa as clients, but has been instrumental in developing some of the country’s most loved brands. Among the agency’s major clients are the Coega Development Corporation, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Eveready SA, Continental, Volkswagen SA, Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism, the Cacadu District Municipality and Woodlands Dairy. The agency offers a wide range of communication services, specializing in brand strategy development, graphic design, advertising and communications/PR.
