Boomtown showcases “Die Ware Jakob” - Go Back
After winning the title of “Dorp van die Jaar” in 2010, Graaff-Reinet was poised to showcase their natural, true Karoo personality to the people of South Africa. Using a number of print adverts, and an authentically Karoo Television commercial, Boomtown was able to show South Africans just what makes Graaff-Reinet the Gem of the Karoo.
Boomtown has developed a unique skill for tourism and destination marketing and we have won numerous awards for the work done in this category, including a Rebrand 100 Award for the rebrand of the Cacadu District Municipality. Boomtown also recently won a Diamond PMR Award for the Best Advertising Agency in the Eastern Cape.
With that amount of experience at hand, Boomtown was guaranteed another success when they conceptualised and created a TV commercial for the Gem of the Karoo, Graaff-Reinet. “Die Ware Jakob” TV commercial was aired on Kyknet as part of the prize that Graaff-Reinet won after being named, “Dorp van die Jaar 2010”. The title of the TV ad when translated into English means “The real or authentic thing” which is directly reflected in the work done by Boomtown. The advert not only shows the people and popular tourist attractions in Graaff-Reinet but also gives the viewer a good idea of its hospitality and adventure.
“With Destination marketing you have to ensure that all the marketing material illustrates the appeal of the destination. Graaff-Reinet has so much to offer and the TV commercial was designed around that concept. The hospitality, culture, tourism attractions and the history that is Graaff-Reinet is exactly what is depicted in the commercial,” said Andrew MacKenzie, Creative Director of Boomtown Strategic Brand Agency.
Boomtowns concept and creativity combined the beauty and hospitality of the town which is a mirror image of what is expected from South Africa’s town of the year.
“Boomtown works on various destination brands including Nelson Mandela Bay, Cacadu District, Eastern Cape Adventure Province, Namibia Tourism, and Stellenbosch Tourism. Effective tourism and destination marketing is something that we pride ourselves on,” added MacKenzie.
